Most people who have chosen to employ and use a Real Estate Agent have
thought of the following questions to ask the agent they are thinking
about using. You should know, these questions are all over the internet!
How long has the agent been in business or licensed?
Is this person full or part-time?
What honors has he/she been given?
How accessible is the agent?
Is the individual a good listener?
Is the agent really into technology?
Make no mistake, everything above deals with important traits of an
individual who does the business of Real Estate. Length of time as a
Realtor®, awards, and the accessibility of the agent all add up to
someone who is productive and perhaps can serve you well in your search
for a home. Productivity is nothing to frown upon and indeed, it is of
immeasurable importance! In fact, all of the above deals with the
subject of doing the business of Real Estate and that, by itself, is
very significant.
There is one additional quality to look for when choosing your Agent. We
don’t read about it as often as we should, because many shy away from
writing about this character attribute and additionally, feel
uncomfortable discussing it! I will be brave in this writing and go for
it! It is about Integrity! In other words: Does this person refuse to
compromise on matters of principle. Is this individual trusted and
respected among his/her peers and truly incorruptible? Is this someone I
can trust in carrying out my business, perhaps the largest transaction I
will ever make? One way to find out is to ask for a couple of
references. Ask that the references be from previous clients or even
peers within the business of Real Estate that you can call. Any agent
who possesses the qualities above should not hesitate to grant your
request. If the agent does react negatively to providing names and
numbers, then don’t stop your searching, at least not yet.
Finally, I firmly believe the majority of agents
DO carry this kind of,
“Badge of honor”.
But just like you might check on an attorney, doctor, minister, car
salesman, contractor, or any other profession, you need to know your
Real Estate Agent is truly a specialist, a respected Real Estate
Professional throughout his/her community.
